My human mom Jessica Strauss, gave me a beautiful green collar, to tell me apart from my sibs and my nick name was Scooter. At 4 days old I was a whopping 1.25lbs. At 10 days old I was 2.1lbs.
This is what Jessica and her friend Pam had to say about me at my litter evaluations at 8 weeks old:
Green Collar Boy (Loki) : This boy is a white smooth male. Medium/Medium Hard temperament, Breed Quality. He is a submissive puppy who almost fell asleep while on his back. He is trusting with humans. He also has a high pain tolerance. He is a very willing worker, and wants guidance from his human. He will work for praise. This puppy has no self-indulgence. To him, it is all about his human. He will make a good working dog. He will play, but not in excess...just for occasional fun. He went through his testing with a wagging tail.
My new mom, Angela was at my LER. She had been looking for over a year and a half for a promise of a pup that would one day be able to grow up and be her service dog. Her current one, Zeus's Lightingbolt, was getting old and had come down with hip problems.
After the LER we all knew little green was going to have the right stuff.
I was knighted SHS Loki's Magical Promise. That day I was 16lbs and I rode 6 hours to go to my new home.
I was the pup to beat at my first dog show. I took first puppy in every show (there where 4 shows during the weekend) and took TWO best of breeds and one BEST of GROUP and I am only 4.5 months old. How is that for strutting my stuff?
Today I am much bigger and will turn the big 6 months on Dec 9. So far I have proven how smart I am by being top dog in my puppy kindergarten class.
I am now over 75 lbs and 27" at the shoulder. I am a beautiful buff color. I have lost all my puppy teeth and love my toys. Mom is so proud of me.
Dec 8, 2006 I went to the vets and got an official weight. I tipped the scales at 83lbs. I am growing fast and am now taller then Zeus. I have learned a lot an tomorrow is my 6month birthday.
At 7.5 months old I passed with flying colors my CGC. I got a beautiful certificate that showed how smart I am.
A lot has happened since I updated last. I have grown into a HUGE young adult dog. At 12 months old I got my hip done for OFA and they came back with GOOD. Which is wonderful for a puppy :) At 17 months old I weighed in at 108 lbs and 31" at the shoulder. I now working part time as a service dog letting Zeus slowly get used to retirement. I am taking good care of mom. I have gotten to go to a lot of places and keep surprising my mom at how good I am.
I am now 19 months old and I am working full time as a medical alert dog. I have proven over and over how smart I am. I have also alerted to another person other than my mom. Once I told a nice lady that her blood sugar was WAY up (usual was 90 it was 150 when I told her to check it).
Everyone who sees me says how wonderful I am.
We are a very happy family.
I am now 26 months old and 115 lbs. Mom and I went to the Shiloh picnic and we had loads of fun. Mom thought it would be fun to enter in the temper test. Naturally I pass with a 100%!!!
My usual work day is like this. Wake mom up about 430. Make sure mom eats, takes her pills and feeds me. Make sure mom gets dressed and ready to go. Remind mom to put my harness on. Show her how very excited I am to go to work by prancing around. I do let mom drive to work so she feels like she is in charge :D I get a 5 minute run around on the grass to let off a bit of steam and then go to work. I open the door for mom, make sure she gets to her desk and then I lay down. At her first break I walk her up to the lunch room so she gets to stretch her legs. I let her know when it is time to go back down. At lunch I make sure mom doesn't forget to eat and walks her down to her desk. Mom has a problem with her balance so I have to make sure she doesn't fall. I am always watching her to make sure she is not about to go into an asthma attack or have a medical emergency. I have gotten really good at knowing when something is going on with her (she starts to smell different). When it is time to go home I show her how excited I am by grabbing my leash and letting her put it on me. We then get to go home. After I get home I get to tell Zeus all the fun things I saw today and get to play with him. Then it is time for dinner and I make sure mom takes her pills. Then I remind mom to go to bed. I take turns with Zeus watching over her while she sleeps. Then we get to do it all over again tomorrow.
